Bring the refugee crisis into the classroom with Into Film

Give your class the opportunity to understand and explore today’s world

With the news in recent weeks dominated by the refugee crisis, Into Film’s refugee resources, created in June this year in collaboration with the Refugee Council to celebrate Refugee Week, offer young people the opportunity to explore the wider context of such critical issues.

Using film can be an effective way of contextualising real-world issues, offering easy-to-digest explorations of the topics at hand, and helping promote understanding, reflection and discussion.

The resource is particularly and pointedly relevant right now and provides teachers and club leaders with a great opportunity to celebrate and discuss the contribution refugees make to their adopted homes. It contains a guide to five films that help bring the stories and struggles of refugees to life and includes discussion questions and activity ideas to help encourage learners to question why people seek sanctuary in other countries.

The films included in the resource are:

  • An American Tail
  • Casablanca
  • Monsieur Lazhar
  • The Kite Runner
  • The Terminal
