Do Try This at Home is a new series of fun science experiments for primary school children, created by the Institute of Physics to aid home learning when not all students can be in the classroom.

There are 14 easy-to-follow experiments, each with short demonstration videos,  accompanying step-by-step-instructions and simple – but rigorously accurate – explanations.

As well as the 14 experiments, the Institute of Physics (IOP) has created a special Winter Activity Pack for KS2 teachers to share with their classes, containing experiments, challenges, games, facts and literacy-building features to help enrich the science curriculum – and make it fun and easy for children to learn at home.

All the Do Try This at Home experiments and resources use only basic household materials to demonstrate physics in safe, easy-to-replicate ways, to ensure they are accessible to all.

The videos and resources have been produced by IOP’s Education team and expert science communicators.

Do Try This at Home has been created as part of IOP’s Limit Less campaign, which aims to support young people to change the world and fulfil their potential by doing physics.

The IOP wants to support primary school teachers and help inspire students with these resources, which have been designed to be easily disseminated both for home learning and in the classroom.

The Winter Activity Pack and all the Do Try This at Home experiments can be found at www.iop.org/AtHome

About the Institute of Physics

The Institute of Physics is the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland, inspiring people to develop their knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of physics.

We work with a range of partners to support and develop the teaching of physics in schools; we encourage innovation, growth and productivity in business including addressing significant skills shortages; and we provide evidence-based advice and support to governments across the UK and in Ireland.
